Together with various representatives from research, industry and the security authorities, we research and develop concepts and technologies to make critical infrastructures and our society more resilient. Regarding collaborations, we work together on topics or apply jointly for public tenders to advance research issues. Alternatively, we can also be commissioned for research and development work. Innovation Lab – Police North Rhine-Westphalia

DLR and the Ministry of the Interior of North Rhine-Westphalia have been cooperating in the field of security research since 2019. The close collaboration between civil research and official evaluation and application accelerates technology transfer and ensures user-oriented development. We have been working with the Innovation Lab since it was founded in 2022 and, among other things, are further developing robotic systems for use by emergency services.

Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg (H-BRS)

In the field of sensor and detection technologies, we cooperate with the H-BRS and its Institutes for Detection Technology (IDT) and for Safety and Security Research (ISF). We are working together on two projects for the detection of chemical and biological hazardous substances. Prof. Dr. Peter Kaul heads both institutes and is also active in the Detection Systems department. Dr. Kostyantin Konstantynovski, head of the Detection Systems department, continues to be closely associated with the university through his many years of work at the IDT and his ongoing involvement in teaching.

Henkel

Together with Henkel, we are working on improving the corporate security of critical infrastructures and making operational processes more resilient. Our focus here is on the generation and use of the digital twin as well as the user-oriented development of security technologies in chemical parks to support crisis teams and emergency services in the event of an emergency. Through practical development, we can test these technologies in real situations, which enables faster deployment in practice.

University of the Bundeswehr Munich (UniBW M)

The DLR and the University of the Bundeswehr Munich (UniBw M) cooperate in particular in the development of modern simulation methods for digital twins. Prof. Dr. Alexander Popp, Head of the Institute of Mathematics and Computer-Based Simulation and the interdisciplinary research network RISK.twin at the UniBw M, is also the deputy head of our institute.

Amprion

Together with our partner Amprion, we develop methods to assess physical security risks as objectively as possible. On the basis of scientifically sound approaches, we enable the optimization of security measures that provide an appropriate benefit in relation to the effort involved. In joint projects, we transfer the developed methods into practical application by establishing guidelines and practical tools. In this way, we protect relevant parts of the transmission grid infrastructure effectively and efficiently.

University of Wuppertal

In the research areas of physical security and decisions under uncertainty, the "Resilience and Risk Methodology" department cooperates with the Institute for Security Systems and the School of Mechanical Engineering and Safety Engeneering. Together, we develop approaches for analyzing the security of critical infrastructures against attacks, for example by terrorists. In doing so, we develop methods to design security measures systematically and in line with the risks involved.
