Using VR glasses at the situation table

The Institute for the Protection of Terrestrial Infrastructures is developing a virtual situation table at which emergency services can monitor a situation in real time in an emergency. Additional visualization and simulation tools support users in their decisions.

Static and dynamic information on buildings is prepared for the user in the virtual situation table. This enables them to assess the situation as quickly as possible so that they can react better in an emergency.

Equipped with various sensors developed by the Institute for the Protection of Terrestrial Infrastructures, drones are intended to support emergency services such as the fire department and police in crisis situations.

At the Institute for the Protection of Terrestrial Infrastructures, we are developing various attachments - so-called backpacks - with which the robot will support the rescue services in an emergency.

DLR and the University of the Federal Armed Forces (UniBw) Munich are joining forces in security research. The cooperation is also made clear by a close personnel connection. Prof. Alexander Popp, Head of the Institute of Mathematics and Computer-aided Simulation (IMCS) at the UniBw Munich, is taking over as Deputy Director of the DLR Institute for the Protection of Terrestrial Infrastructures in Sankt Augustin.
