Galileo Competence Center (GK)
The Galileo Competence Centre was founded in 2019. It is dedicated to the further development of the European satellite navigation system Galileo in order to support Europe in providing the best possible navigation technologies.
It analyses how future Galileo systems can be designed to provide the maximum benefit to the user community, which technologies are most likely to make a difference and which enhancements and modifications are most effective. It analyses how Galileo and its associated services can be improved to promote an environmentally friendly society.
Together with DLR's scientific institutes and facilities and other research partners, the performance of Galileo and other existing GNS systems is being analysed and new ideas and promising technologies are being developed, tested and validated.
These will be matured in close cooperation with industry to improve the robustness, reliability, accuracy, sustainability and cost-effectiveness of the Galileo system.
In addition, the Galileo Competence Centre uses its expertise to act as a focal point for policymakers, researchers, industry, the European Commission and other partners, with the aim of putting Galileo ahead of other Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS).
