The Cognetics specialist group evaluates the interaction within the crew and between the crew and the aircraft systems. From this data, it derives new concepts for pilot training, cockpit procedures and systems.
Insights into possible deficits in interaction are gained from interim and accident reports as well as directly from operational activities in close cooperation with airline operators. Furthermore, the Cognetics specialist group carries out extensive simulator studies for which operationally relevant scenarios are developed. This serves to recognise problems and test the newly developed cockpit systems and procedures.
As part of such simulator studies, the effects of new operational concepts or systems on flight safety are also assessed on behalf of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
Selected system concepts are then tested in flight trials.
