Research infrastructure
The DLR Institute of Electrified Aero Engines is planning to set up a large number of test benches, the HepCo Test Facilities, in a 13,300 square meter hall on the grounds of the Technology and Innovation Park (TIP) in Cottbus. HepCo stands for Hybrid Electric Propulsion Cottbus. Drive components of electric and hybrid-electric aero engines as well as entire drive architectures are to be tested here under real conditions.
HepCo Test Facilities
The Lausitz-region in Brandenburg is developing into another aviation hub in Germany. To enable climate neutral aviation, major international corporations, local companies, universities and the German Aerospace Center are conducting research and development in our region.
The test centres of the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg (Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg), chesco (Center for Hybrid Electric Systems Cottbus) and the DLR, HepCo (Hybrid Electric Propulsion Test Stands Cottbus of the DLR) build on each other in their range of tasks and thus complement each other ideally.
For our aviation research, extensive test facilities are the prerequisite for verifying our results on the way to application and market maturity.
In the HepCo test environment in Cottbus, we are focused on component and system tests. Test benches are put up here that cover all areas of electrified aviation drives from fundamental research to product development.
