DIO study

Decarbonization of industry in East Brandenburg

The aim of this study is to develop location-specific decarbonization options for East Brandenburg. To this end, a location analysis of industrial production was carried out with regard to its CO2 emissions and an overview of emissions volumes was compiled. The main emitters in East Brandenburg are the cement, steel and chemical industries. The glass and paper industries emit smaller quantities of CO2. The individual production processes were broken down by sector and briefly described. The general decarbonization measures were also broken down by industry and briefly described. The companies in East Brandenburg were asked anonymously about their decarbonization measures. Location and sector-specific packages of measures for the glass, paper and automotive supply industries were derived from the evaluation of the survey results.

At the production site LEIPA Group GmbH in Schwedt/Oder, which was examined in more detail, a site- and process-specific decarbonization strategy was developed in collaboration with the industry partner.

Recommendations for action were then formulated for industry and politics.
