The DART spacecraft collides with the asteroid Dimorphos
On 26 September 2022, NASA's DART (Double Asteroid Redirection Test) spacecraft made a controlled impact with the asteroid Dimorphos at a speed of over six kilometres per hour in order to knock it out of its orbit. Telescope measurements showed that its orbital period had been shortened by 33 minutes from the original 11 hours 55 minutes – the target was only 10 minutes.
