In our information society, increasingly growing amounts of data are constantly being transmitted worldwide. Communication satellites play an important role in this, as they enable almost global coverage via geostationary satellites. Internet connections, mobile communications and TV services are just some of the areas in which these satellites increase the security, resilience and flexibility of communication networks. Satellite communication is also playing an increasingly important logistical role in crises such as natural disasters, peacekeeping missions and domestic security. Their data and communication links are indispensable in situations where no terrestrial infrastructure exists or has been destroyed.
