Prof. Dr. Markus Schatz was elected as the new university representative on the AG Turbo programme management in April 2024.

In 2019, he was appointed Professor of Fluid Machinery in Energy Technology at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Helmut Schmidt University/University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg.

From 2007 to 2019, he headed the Department of Thermal Turbomachinery and Thermal Power Plants at the Institute for Thermal Turbomachinery and Machine Laboratory (ITSM) at the University of Stuttgart.

In 2012, he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Engineering (Dr.-Ing.). The topic of his dissertation was "Determination of the composition of the two-phase flow in low-pressure steam turbines based on the light extinction method".

From 2003 to 2007, Markus Schatz was a research assistant at the Institute for Thermal Fluid Machinery and Machine Laboratory (ITSM) at the University of Stuttgart.

Markus Schatz studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Stuttgart from 1997 to 2003. During this time, he completed an academic year abroad at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, from 2001 to 2002.

In his research, he is interested in two-phase flows, especially droplet-laden flows, turbomachinery as part of energy systems, micro gas turbines and hydrogen-fuelled processes.
