Since May 2024 Prof. Dr. Florian Herbst continues to shape the future of aerospace engineering as Director of the Institute Propulsion Technology at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and Professor of Aircraft Propulsion Technology at Ruhr University Bochum.

He earned his Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from TU Hamburg-Harburg, Aristotle University Thessaloniki, and Leibniz University Hanover. After earning his PhD in Transition Modelling for Vortex-Generating Jets from Leibniz University Hanover under the supervision of Prof. J. R. Seume, he proceeded to lead research groups as a senior engineer at the university.

In the capacity of managing director, he managed dynamic energy conversion projects within a research alliance at Leibniz University Hanover. Transitioning to industry, he worked as a Development Engineer and later as a Senior Manager at MTU Aero Engines in Munich.
