Dr. Bertram Janus
Dr. Bertram Janus has been a member of the AG Turbo programme management since January 2023.
He has headed the Combustion Chamber department at the Institute of Propulsion Technology at the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) in Cologne since the end of 2019. State-of-the-art numerical simulation methods and complex high-pressure test benches are used here to master application-oriented research and development challenges for climate-friendly aircraft engines and gas turbines.
After graduating from RWTH Aachen University with a degree in turbomachinery, Dr Bertram Janus completed his doctorate at the Technical University of Darmstadt in the field of combustion development. Using laser-optical measurement techniques, he investigated turbulent reacting flows in a high-pressure combustion chamber that he developed himself.
In the years that followed, he took on various project leadership and management responsibilities at Siemens Energy for the development of state-of-the-art combustion systems for highly efficient gas turbines.
