Hybrid Wind - Hybrid wind turbine condition monitoring system for different climatic conditions

Hybrid Wind

Hybrid Wind aims to further develop the application of a robust blade load sensor developed for control purposes with methods of AI-based operational modal analysis for damage early detection.

In this international consortium, fatigue tests are conducted in a climate chamber at Gdansk Tech in Poland, allowing targeted damage to be realized under changing climate conditions. DLR and Bachmann will (a) initially utilize the validation data obtained in the endurance test for the development of damage early detection based on load sensor data, and (b) deploy and validate the developed methodology in the WiValdi research wind farm of DLR in Krummendeich during operation. The goals of Hybrid Wind are listed as follows:

  • Development of AI-based real-time algorithms for modal identification of rotor blades from load sensor data
  • Generation of test data for a rotor blade in fatigue testing under varying temperature conditions
  • Condition monitoring under varying climate conditions
  • Transfer of the methodology to the entire rotor of a wind turbine in the DLR Research Wind Farm WiValdi
