Coordinator of the German Federal Government for Maritime Industry and Tourism, Claudia Müller, visits DLR in Bremerhaven

Claudia Müller, Coordinator of the Federal Government for Maritime Industry and Tourism, visited the Bremerhaven site of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) on June 21, 2022. The MP gained insights into the maritime research activities of DLR, as well as into the institute’s internal and external cooperation in the areas of underwater sensors, situational awareness for maritime security and resilience of maritime infrastructures.

The coordinator was received by Dr. Sill Torres, Acting Institute Director of the DLR Institute for the Protection of Maritime Infrastructures in Bremerhaven, who guided the group through the premises of the institute and presented some of its future-oriented research projects using demonstration objects from the fields of sensor technology and situational awareness. The "TRAGVIS" project, which aims to implement a portable active range-gated viewing system to improve visibility in the maritime environment in different weather conditions, caught great interest.

In addition to the presentation of the site and its research topics, the Maritime Coordinator was also provided with an overview of DLR's overall expertise in the areas of maritime research and maritime security research by Mr. Lamp (head of the DLR directorate transport) and Dr. Brusch (coordinator for maritime security at DLR). The group, which also included Mr. Otto Alef (Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action), Ms. Verena Hedtke (Personal Advisor to the Coordinator of the German Federal Government for Maritime Industry and Tourism), Dr. Sören Ehlers (DLR Institute for Maritime Energy Systems), Mr. Michael Langerbeins (DLR Institute for the Protection of Terrestrial Infrastructures), Mr. Thoralf Noack (DLR Institute for Communications and Navigation) and Dr. André Bolles (Institute of Systems Engineering for Future Mobility), was moderated by Dr. Dirk Zimper (Head of DLR Program Coordination Security and Defense Research). The discussion centered on the requirements for research in the maritime field, especially with regard to maritime security, and possible contributions from DLR.

We would like to thank the maritime coordinator Claudia Müller and her team, as well as the DLR colleagues for the productive exchange and look forward to further shaping our maritime future together.
