Knowledge platform for the digitalisation of SMEs

Transfer-X

Knowledge platform for the digitalisation of SMEs

The Transfer-X project, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) with 8 million euros and running from October 2022 to June 2025, aims to establish a transformation hub. This should make it easier for small and medium-sized manufacturing companies (SMEs) in particular to participate in and utilise digital ecosystems.

The core element of the Transfer-X transformation hub is a publicly accessible platform on which the results of the KoPa35c initiative are made available in the form of target group-specific, standardised self-learning modules along clearly structured transfer paths. These transfer modules enable companies and users in the supply chain to plan and implement internal transformation projects independently or with an implementation partner ideally identified via the platform.

Transferring results from lighthouse projects to the economy

The creation of transfer modules focuses in particular on the transferable results of lighthouse projects such as Catena-X and the Gaia-X 4 Future Mobility project family. The DLR Institute for AI Safety and Security is actively involved in research and development in Catena-X as a consortium partner, while in Gaia-X 4 Future Mobility it is coordinating the six projects to promote synergies and overarching results. These projects generate transferable results such as services, applications and connectors. In decentralised open data service ecosystems such as Base-X or Catena-X, they enable the secure exchange of data while respecting personal and property rights. The aim is to quickly motivate as many companies as possible to actively participate in the data services ecosystems in order to be able to scale the solutions from the projects.

As a transformation hub, Transfer-X bundles project results from lighthouse and other KoPa35c projects and processes them. This enables SMEs along the automotive value chain to adapt them and ideally integrate them into their practice. This digitalisation approach transfers transparent and resilient structures to many companies along the value chain and thus forms a basis for sustainable production.

Contribution Institute for AI Safety and Security

To optimise the use of expertise for Transfer-X, a dual consortium management has been set up by DLR and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. DLR is responsible for the area of mobility, while the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is responsible for the area of production/logistics.

DLR is represented here by the DLR Institute for AI Safety and Security. In the area of mobility, the institute draws on transfer-oriented competences that have already been acquired in the Catena-X and Gaia-X 4 Future Mobility projects. The focus here is on the selection of transferable project content from various KoPa35c projects, the clustering of possible transfer modules and content at topic and technology level, the transdisciplinary classification of topics and an overarching harmonisation strategy. DLR's tasks in Transfer-X also include the dissemination of transfer content and the establishment of a multiplier network.
