Welding System for Thermoplastic Composites

The welding system at our institute has been developed for joining fibre-reinforced high-performance thermoplastics. The centrepiece of the system is a powerful Heidenpower power supply unit with a capacity of 20 kW, which provides ensures efficient processing of the materials.

The system is equipped with a pneumatic pressure system to enable uniform, high-quality weld seams. This system allows precise monitoring and control of the pressure applied during the entire welding process.

Its Beckhoff control system, developed in-house, gives the system flexibility and adaptability to the specific requirements of different research projects.

The system also includes a comprehensive process data recording system that is able to record and log electrical performance data, pneumatic process data and thermal measurements. The establishment of a comprehensive database is used for continuous process control and optimisation and also provides reliable quality assurance of the welding results.

With the capacity to weld demanding materials such as fibre-reinforced PEEK, LMPAEK and PPS matrix systems, the system is extremely versatile. It is capable of welding both mechanical test specimens for research and development purposes as well as larger demonstrators for industrial applications, making it ideal for innovations in high-performance areas.
