The Centre for Lightweight Production Technology in Augsburg has developed and tested a new production process for the future European launch vehicle Ariane 6. The aim was to find a process with which a solid-fuel motor casing can be manufactured efficiently. The combination of winding dry rovings and dry fibre placement enables highly automated preforming. The fibres are then impregnated using a vacuum infusion process and cured in an industrial oven.
