MIRA - Multi-instrument Ionospheric Radio observation Array

General information

The Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics DLR-SO established an antenna measurement and test field (MIRA for Multi-instrument Ionospheric Radio observation Array) for various, exclusively passive reception measurement techniques in a range of about 10 kHz - 2 GHz. On the one hand, this measurement field serves to check antenna and measurement equipment before it is shipped abroad to cooperation partners, and on the other hand, it is used in particular for the long-term measurement of various ionospheric and solar disturbances and the further development of various radio reception techniques. A number of different receivers are already installed for GNSS, Beacon and VLF signals, as well as solar spectrometers, which are subject to various projects at DLR-SO. An antenna measurement field of this size also allows the installation as well as testing of additional receivers on request of cooperation partners.
