Holistic Control Center (HCC)

The space flight ground segment of the future is being developed at the Space Operations and Astronaut Training institution under the working title "HCC". With this project, the individual components that GSOC provides for space flight operations will be simpler, modular and flexible and therefore also more cost-effective to use in the future. The aim is to create a kind of modular system so that the required components can be assembled directly according to customer needs depending on the mission requirements.

To achieve this, the existing operating components must be modified so that they can be used generically and mission-specific requirements can be mapped in the configuration. In addition, an infrastructure is required in which these components can be assembled and operated. The HCC core team is dedicated to developing precisely this infrastructure, while the necessary adaptations of the operating components are implemented by the expert teams of the respective systems.

Structurally, a future ground system will look like the one shown in the illustration:

The space flight-specific services on the right-hand side are selected by the customer as required for the respective mission and installed automatically from the service repository. Such an HCC system is completed by the basic services, which enable communication between all components and also provide central services for configuring, monitoring and ultimately operating the overall system.

This service-oriented architecture also makes a wide range of new scenarios conceivable, such as combinations of GSOC services with other services that are not managed at GSOC.
