With Heinrich Hertz, the German Space Agency at DLR is launching a national communications satellite mission, which will once again comprehensively demonstrate German system capabilities in this field following an absence of more than 20 years. The technologies on board are intended to respond in a smart and flexible manner to future challenges in the field of satellite communications and also to be able to support future communication scenarios. After its launch, the satellite will operate for 15 years from geostationary orbit at an altitude of approximately 36,000 kilometres. It will always be located above the same point on Earth's surface.
