Mars with its moons Deimos (above) and Phobos
Mars' two moons, Deimos (above) and Phobos, are the targets of the MMX mission. Due to their small size (Phobos 27 kilometres, Deimos 15 kilometres), both moons are irregularly shaped. Their origin is still an unsolved mystery in planetary research. (image montage)
