About Stephan Ulamec
Stephan Ulamec is a research associate member at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) with over 30 years of experience in space research. He works at the Microgravity User Support Center (MUSC) and is also involved in business development for the German Space Operations Center (GSOC).
He studied geophysics in Graz, where he completed his PhD in 1991 on measurement methods related to the Cassini-Huygens mission. He subsequently worked as a research fellow at the European Space Agency (ESA) in the Netherlands, contributing to the preparation of planetary science missions such as MARSNET and Rosetta.
At DLR, Stephan oversaw the development and operation of Rosetta's lander, Philae, initially as a systems engineer and later as project manager. He was also the payload manager for MASCOT, a lander developed for the Japanese Hayabusa2 mission to the asteroid Ryugu, and is one of the two scientific leads of the IDEFIX rover, which is part of the Japanese MMX mission to the Martian moon Phobos.
Stephan Ulamec has also been involved in the preparation and planning of the Hera mission to the Didymos asteroid system and serves on the ESA Science Management Board for this mission.
