About Heinz-Theo Hammes

Heinz Hammes studied safety engineering and has worked at the DLR Space Administration for more than 25 years: first, as a safety engineer for the Spacelab D-2 mission, then as a systems engineer / scientist for several smaller projects at DARA / DLR. Since 1998, he has worked mainly for the SOFIA project and led the mechanical integration of the telescope in the aircraft in the United States. He was involved in the testing of the telescope and of the aircraft and in all major observatory milestones as well. Since June 2016 he is the German Project Manager for SOFIA.
