Multifunctional Robot Cell (MFC)

Multifunctional Robot Cell (MFC)
With the Multifunctional Robot Cell (MFC), located at the Institute of Structures and Design in Augsburg, the DLR has a very flexible worldwide unique infrastructure at its disposal. In the MFC, six cooperating or individually acting robots work from the hall ceiling. In the 15 x 30 x 7 metre cell the robots can move freely throughout the entire area, producing, assembling and testing even very large structures. The cell can be subdivided into up to four independent areas for several simultaneous tasks and projects.

The MFC unfolds its full effect in conjunction with consistent digitalisation, sensor technology, data management and quality assurance for the holistic automated production of lightweight structures for aerospace and transport and other sectors.
