In addition to the library in Stuttgart, there are six other DLR libraries in Berlin, Braunschweig, Göttingen, Cologne, Lampoldshausen and Oberpfaffenhofen.

The DLR Library is a specialised scientific library and internal service provider for DLR. As part of the research process, it provides DLR with scientific and general information of all kinds. On behalf of and in cooperation with the DLR institutes and facilities, the library provides electronic and printed media on DLR research topics, supports DLR staff in carrying out their tasks, and offers help in navigating the flood of information.

The DLR Library specialises in obtaining information on behalf of internal customers. It procures online media and documents required for research, development, management and administration.

In order to fulfil its mandate, the DLR Library cooperates and networks with the libraries and information facilities of other Helmholtz centres and participates in national cooperations such as the 'Electronic Journals Library' (Elektronischen Zeitschriftenbibliothek; EZB) and the national and alliance licences for electronic media.

The DLR Library consists of a central organisational unit and seven site libraries in Berlin, Braunschweig, Göttingen, Cologne, Lampoldshausen, Stuttgart and Oberpfaffenhofen. The site libraries advise local users on what is available and take care of the procurement of literature and media. These services are also available to staff at DLR locations that do not have their own library.
